My Doctor had to get a hold of my Insurance company about getting a prior authorization on a prescription?

would I be able to call my Insurance company to see if it has been approved or not ? Or do I have to wait for my Doctors. It has been 1 week and I am tired of waiting to hear from my Doctors. They are really slow about everything as is
