Did Christ say we should walk in love and truth?

Yes, very much so. It's the very first sin that gave Satan his power and he has drawn his power from man since. He will use what ever means he can to deceive and It's Jesus' love and truth that gives us the power over Satan to defeat him. Keeping in the footsteps of Jesus is the only true way we can stay clean of Satan's influence. People are being deceived into believing that they are truly in the truth but are not. This is the greatest error of man to not question everything and just accept the words of another man as truth. As you state John 14:6 "I am the way and the truth and the life. Jesus is the truth and the way to the eternal life. It is his words, not the words of man that we should cling too.
